Mississippi Trip
- Day 6
| Saturday is a
day of farewells as most teams prepare for a long drive back to
their homes. Billy Graham's Rapid Response Chaplains (easily
identifiable by their blue shirts) have been on site all week to
help minister to the teams. As brothers and sisters pack up and say
goodbye, any remaining teams check to see if there is any job they
can do, either out in the community or at the church. |
 |
 |
| Since
we were leaving early Sunday morning, we had about a half day that
we could commit to a job. Fortunately, there was a house that
another team had almost finished earlier in the week. All that was
needed was to scrub the house for mold. Only the first floor was
directly affected. This house was very close to the Bay St. Louis
coastline, where many homes were completely destroyed and washed out
to sea. This house was in a cul-de-sac that was largely preserved
except for trees that were leaning on the house. |

 |
| When
FEMA initially comes through a disaster area, they mark any
inspected property with a special "X" and information
about the condition of the property. Since it can be difficult to
locate street signs and addresses, a property is usually marked with
the address, sometimes with contact information for the owner. |
 |
 |
| After finishing
the house and having lunch, we took some time to survey more of the
coastline in Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, and Biloxi. Although some
buildings on the coastline survived, many were completely gone. |
 |
| We
then went back to Bayou Talla to pack and prepare for our
flights/drive home. We left with a feeling of how much more
assistance is needed in this part of our country, but also knowing
that it was a strenuous, rewarding week that was glorious to God. |
 |
 |
| Even the flight
home revealed the greatness of God's creation ... |
